Nico Rosberg has owned up to making a mistake on his steering wheel before colliding with Lewis Hamilton at the Spanish Grand Prix.
Hamilton crashed into Rosberg while trying to re-claim the lead on the opening lap in Barcelona, resulting in both Silver Arrows cars retiring from the race. The stewards deemed it a racing incident after it became apparent Rosberg's car had entered an incorrect engine mode, meaning he was slower than Hamilton by 17 km/h before the world champion attempted to overtake.
Immediately after the crash Rosberg had been unsure why car had entered that mode, saying it was something Mercedes would look in to.
When asked if he now understood what had happened in the Monaco press conference on Wednesday, Rosberg replied: "The switch was in the wrong position and it's my job to put it in the right position, pretty simple. Not much more to say with that.
"In terms with formation lap and start, it's the same as always -- you need to think about what you're doing, there's a lot going on and that's it. You need to come up with ways of making sure everything is done properly."
When pushed on the dynamic within the team since the crash Rosberg insisted his only focus now is on winning at Monaco for the fourth year in a row.
"I don't know about experience playing into this but for sure it's a thing of the past and I'm not thinking about it anymore, we've been through it so I'm not looking forward and concentrating on trying to win here," the championship leader said.
Though that suggested he and Hamilton have spoken since the incident Rosberg was reluctant to reveal whether that conversation had taken place.
"If we've spoken or not ... as always that needs to be kept internally. What I can say is that between the two of us it's a thing of the past now and we're moving on with everything.
"The relationship is the same as before and nothing's change and now going out on track I'm not going to be thinking about Barcelona, I'm going to be taking the same approach as always -- flat out and do what's necessary to try and win this grand prix, which is what I've come here to do."
When asked if he had been told by the team not to disclose any internal discussions, he replied: "I always try and answer your questions and yes we've spoken together as a team, on how we approach these happenings and everything. But with respect to this answer, no, there's been no [orders from the team] at all. I just feel like not discussing that, pretty simple."
