Niki Lauda expects Nico Rosberg to sign a Mercedes contract extension within the next three weeks.
Championship leader Rosberg's current deal with Mercedes expires at the end of the year, a situation which has led to recent reports of the German driver courting Ferrari about a 2017 drive. He has been at Mercedes since it returned to F1 as a manufacturer in 2010 after purchasing the Brawn team.
Non-executive chairman Lauda hopes Rosberg will pen a new deal soon and sees no reason why the 30-year-old would choose not to.
"I'm sure we want to keep Nico, and Nico wants to stay," the three-time world champion told Sky Sports. "I don't see any issues at all and this will be fixed very soon. We have to decide it in the next three weeks. This is my point of view, to let him know that we all stick together for the next couple of years."
Rosberg's 43-point lead over teammate Lewis Hamilton has seen him become the bookies' favourite for a maiden world championship. His father Keke won the title in 1982, meaning Rosberg would follow in Damon Hill's footsteps as a second generation world champion.
Mercedes boss Toto Wolff says there has never been any doubting his talent.
"He's been part of the Mercedes family since the journey began in 2010, he's the current championship leader, has won seven races in a row, nobody ever doubts in his capabilities," Wolff is quoted as saying by Reuters.
