Mercedes: 'No hurdle' preventing new Rosberg deal

MONTREAL, Canada -- Toto Wolff insists there are no major factors standing between Mercedes and Nico Rosberg signing a new contract beyond the end of 2016.

Championship leader Rosberg is out of contract with Mercedes at the end of the year and is in the process of negotiating a new deal for 2017. Both sides have insisted they are not chasing alternative options for next season and Wolff now says driver and team is in the process of deciding the details of the new deal.

"We would like to continue in the same way with Nico that we did and it is down to the detail in the contract which is pretty normal negotiations," he said. "We are not flirting somewhere else and he is not flirting somewhere else. This is why it is not a distraction [to team or driver]."

Asked what the main sticking point was, Wolff added: "There is no hurdle, it is a normal process which takes time to get everything down to the detail and sort out."
