Jenson Button admitted sixth position was "much better" than McLaren expected after he rounded off a strong weekend with an impressive drive at the Austrian Grand Prix.
Starting third after a remarkable performance in changing conditions in qualifying, Button ran second for the opening seven laps but quickly dropped through the field afterwards. Button's pace remained good throughout the race but he says it was difficult to keep positions as soon as the cars behind him moved into DRS range.
"As soon as one got past, they just all came past, overtaking in places you would not expect," Button said. "Out of Turn 3, who overtakes out of Turn 3? And into Turn 4. The drag they have, the way they can drag past is too easy.
"When everyone's got DRS, it's really difficult. They are pulling two cars' length in the middle of the straight. It's very very difficult. In certain times, it was really frustrating but we still had some great battles out there and to come home sixth is much better that whan we'd hoped. We though eighth was probably on the cards.
"To beat Williams, to beat Haas, to beat Force India... we should be very happy with what we've come from today."
Starting directly behind Lewis Hamilton, Button admitted he had hoped for a bit of fun with his old McLaren teammate at lights out.
"I got a very good start, the best from the guys around me, but I didn't manage to get Lewis. My aim was to 'win' the first lap but I didn't quite manage it. Still it was a British one-two for the first few laps and that was nice."
