Nico Rosberg is not allowing himself to think about the possibility of wrapping up his first world title at this weekend's Mexican Grand Prix.
Rosberg leads teammate Lewis Hamilton by 26 points in the title race with 75 still on offer over the remaining three races. However, if he wins this weekend and Hamilton finishes tenth or fails to score, Rosberg will have accrued an unassailable lead in the championship.
"Of course I'm aware of that," he said. "It's an obvious calculation that everyone is telling me and it's great because I'm excited to be in a championship battle at the end of the year.
"That's awesome and I couldn't ask for more at the moment, but for me the approach is to keep it simple and that works best and that's how I feel best.
"I will concentrate on the race win and what's at hand at the weekend. So I go to Mexico fully focused on the win and that's it. Very simple."
Following his victory at the U.S. Grand Prix last weekend, Hamilton talked about his fear of reliability issues striking while he was leading the race. But Rosberg, who has a near perfect reliability record this year, says such thoughts do not enter his mind.
"No, it's not in my control. I completely focus on the job at hand and try to block that out."
