Ricciardo ready to capitalise if Rosberg goes cautious Daniel Ricciardo says he will not change his approach to racing if he becomes involved in the title battle between the two Mercedes drivers this weekend.
Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton are going head to head for the title this weekend, with Rosberg in line for his first championship victory as long he finishes in the top ten. Red Bull are expected to be Mercedes' main competitors in Abu Dhabi and therefore Ricciardo and his teammate Max Verstappen are the two drivers with the best chance of upsetting Rosberg's title aspirations.
"I am sure he [Rosberg] has got scenarios running through his head," he said. "He is still in a great position. He has the same chance to get a pole position and a win as Lewis and he has done it this year. We will see how he plays it.
"If he is a bit cautious at the start then great for us, but their car should be pretty quick and even if he drops a few places at the start he can probably pick a few guys off during the race. From our point of view we will do what we can. We won't make it easy on either of them, try and get maximum points, a little Christmas bonus would be nice"
With Red Bull already guaranteed second in the championship and Ricciardo third in the drivers' race, the Australian said his team's only concern is going for the best result possible, regardless of the impact it has on the title race.
"The team would love for us to get as far up the grid as possible and the championship we haven't talked about as a team at all. It is not our business anymore, we can't do better. If we can beat them then we beat them. It is as simple as that. I think it is up to them whether they want to play it cautious like that is in their hands, but for us it is the same approach."
