Rosberg unsure if he will carry No.1 next season

Nico Rosberg is unsure whether he will carry the number one on his car when he defends his Formula One title in 2017.

Ahead of the 2014 season, F1 drivers were required to choose a career number between 2 and 99, with numbers previously being allocated in championship order. That rule change also states a driver can choose whether to take the number one when the defending champion -- Sebastian Vettel did in 2014 before reverting to the number five at Ferrari, though Lewis Hamilton kept 44 for 2015 and 2016 despite being reigning champion for both seasons.

Rosberg's title win means Nico and father Keke, the 1982 champion, both won the world title with the number six on their car.

When asked if he will change numbers after winning the title in Abu Dhabi, Rosberg said: "I have no idea. I love number six of course, my Dad won the world championship with number six as well, so it's a very lucky number for us. Don't know, that's it."

When justifying his own decision to stick with 44 in 2015, Hamilton claimed having the number one on the car was "irrelevant" as his rivals knew who the world champion was.
