Red Bull has confirmed its switch to fuel and lubricant supplier ExxonMobil for the 2017 season, ending the latter's 21-year partnership with McLaren.
In previous seasons, Red Bull has been using fuel and oil from engine supplier Renault's partner Total. Despite the fact it will stick with Renault power units next year the team will drop Total in favour of ExxonMobil.
Red Bull boss Christian Horner says Red Bull hopes to utilise its new partner's "world class expertise" as it looks to return to the front of the grid in 2017.
"Mobil 1 and Red Bull Racing are two global brands that share a passion for racing, performance and innovation," Horner said. "Mobil 1 has been an iconic brand in Formula One for more than 30 years and our new partnership provides us with a unique opportunity to tap into ExxonMobil's world class expertise."
"In addition to welcoming ExxonMobil to the Red Bull Racing stable, I would like to extend my thanks and appreciation to the technical team at Total, who have made a valuable contribution to our success in Formula One during our partnership. That subjectivity is removed if the circuit is modified or designed to immediately disadvantage a driver if he does go off track."
The Red Bull-ExxonMobil tie-up has been widely expected for several months, and leaves McLaren searching for a new supplier. Recent reports have suggested McLaren will replace ExxonMobil with a Castrol/BP partnership to use in line with its Honda engines.
