Renault team principal Frederic Vasseur says Nico Hulkenberg is "a perfect match" for the French manufacturer as he shares a hunger for future success.
Renault has signed Hulkenberg from Force India for next year as it continues a long-term project it hopes will culminate in a return to former glories. Vasseur believes Hulkenberg is the right driver to drive that project forward.
"Our driver line-up for 2017 shows our intent and aspirations," Vasseur said. "Nico comes to the team at a perfect time for both us and him. He has experience of working with different teams, including those we expect to be our rivals next season.
"As well as a significant amount of experience, he has youth and hunger on his side. He has been a driver hungry for the right opportunity to help build a team and we are that team. It's a perfect match."
Hulkenberg's move comes after years of being linked to a top drive in F1. He remains in-demand, with Renault reportedly rebuffing an approach from Mercedes about the German driver's services shortly after the world champions were informed of Nico Rosberg's decision to retire.
Hulkenberg will partner Jolyon Palmer next year and Vasseur thinks the British driver completes a line-up which can achieve Renault's goals in 2017.
"Jolyon has shown great development over the course of his rookie season with us, combined with his motivating approach and team spirit, and we feel we have a very good driver line-up for what we want to achieve in 2017."
