2016 season review... Toro Rosso

Drivers: Carlos Sainz, Daniil Kvyat, Max Verstappen
Best result: 6th, multiple occasions
Best qualifying: 6th, multiple occasions

Toro Rosso's season was always going to drop off as the year went on -- hampered by a year-old Ferrari engine. It once again produced a stand-out chassis which helped compensate for its power deficit for most of the year, though the final portion of 2016 left a lot to be desired.

The team was hampered by the early season switch which saw Daniil Kvyat return for Max Verstappen, who was promoted to Red Bull. Kvyat needed almost half a season to adjust to his new role and that period of adjustment clearly hurt the team's results before the summer break. One shining light from the whole period is Carlos Sainz, however, who proved he is one of the standout young talents on the grid, though it now faces a headache about keeping him beyond 2017.
