2016 season review ... Force India

Drivers: Sergio Perez, Nico Hulkenberg
Points: 173 (Fourth in constructors')
Best result: 3rd (Sergio Perez, Monaco and Baku GPs)
Best qualifying: 2nd, (Nico Hulkenberg, Austrian GP)

It's been another season of defying the odds for Force India. The small but well-run team achieved its greatest feat yet by scoring points at 18 of this year's 21 rounds, securing two podiums in Monaco and Baku and finishing fourth in the constructors' standings ahead of Williams. And all that while one team owner is in jail and another confined to a single country trouble due to legal problems.

Under the technical leadership of Andrew Green, the team has gone from strength to strength and the use of Toyota's Cologne-based wind tunnel, combined with a CFD-heavy development programme, has paid dividends over the past two seasons. This year's success hinged on a significant performance upgrade at the Spanish Grand Prix, which the team referred to as a B-spec chassis and continued to yield performance well into the second half of the year. In truth, Force India could have scored more points in the opening rounds with a bit more luck, but once the Barcelona updates were introduced it was able to outperform rival team Williams to finish as the best of the rest behind the big three.
