Lewis Hamilton asks fans to design 2017 helmet

Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton has opened a competition to allow a Formula One fan to design his 2017 helmet.

The competition entry form appeared on Mercedes' website, encouraging fans to come up with their own designs for Hamilton to choose from. The winner will see their design run throughout the season and will also receive a replica from Hamilton.

Hamilton has used several different helmet designs during his career, including a predominantly yellow one during his early career and a white and red design since 2014 (pictured above).

Drivers have to stick to one helmet livery per season under regulations aimed at making drivers more recognisable for fans, although a single change is now officially allowed at one race per season.

Full details of the competition can be found here.
