Liga MX has announced that the rest of its games this weekend will be played behind closed doors, a day after two matches were played with fans.
Mexico's first division had previously stated that games will continue to operate in front of fans as other leagues around the world close down for the coronavirus outbreak.
But league officials reversed course on Saturday in a statement after saying they had consulted with health officials.
The weekend's matches are headlined by Chivas' home game on Saturday against Monterrey and Sunday's Mexico City derby at Estadio Azteca between third-placed Club America and league leader Cruz Azul. Attendance was expected to be around 60,000. Mexico played some matches in empty stadiums during the 2009 outbreak of the H1N1 flu.
Morelia's 4-0 win over Queretaro and Tijuana's 3-2 victory against Pachuca were the Friday matches played with the fans.
Clubs and those attending were given a list on Friday of instructions to follow, including antibacterial gel being made available at stadium entrances, the disinfection of surfaces and additional hygiene training for employees, amongst others. "Have fun, be safe," read the slogan on the bottom of the advice statement.
CONCACAF announced earlier Friday that it was postponing all of its events for 30 days, including the men's Olympic qualifying tournament, which was due to begin on March 20 in Guadalajara.
Major League Soccer suspended its season for 30 days starting Thursday, while the Mexican and U.S. men's national teams have had their friendlies games in the FIFA international break later this month canceled.
