Former Liverpool and Arsenal winger Jermaine Pennant agreed to a one-year contract with Singapore's Tampines Rovers on Tuesday ahead of the start of the Great Eastern Yeo's 2016 S.League season next month.
A signing ceremony was held in the showroom of Komoco Motors, one of Tampines' main sponsors.
The 33-year-old will play for the Stags in AFC Champions League (ACL) qualifying and the AFC Cup, in addition to the S.League campaign.
He will be part of V. Sundramoorthy's star-studded Tampines squad, who finished second in the 2015 S.League.
It's believed that Pennant will received S$40,000 a month (USD$27,700), which would be a record for an S.League player.
His first match is likely to be Tampines' ACL qualifier away to India's Mohun Bagan on Jan. 27. He would make his S.League debut on Feb. 15 against Geylang International at Jurong West Stadium, although the game could be switched to Jalan Besar Stadium for live television coverage.
Pennant, who trialled unsuccessfully with Muang Thong United in the Thai Premier League (TPL) in November, last played a competitive match for Wigan Athletic in the English Championship in May 2015.
At the end of 2014, he spent three months in the Indian Premier League with FC Pune City, featuring in seven games.
He played a trial game for Tampines on Feb. 9, providing an assist for the second goal as his side defeated Hougang United 2-0.
Pennant arrived in Singapore for the trial with Tampines on Jan. 7, vowing to put his mark on the S.League.
