Nice president Jean-Pierre Rivere has revealed that Hatem Ben Arfa wants to play for a team who will take part in the Champions League next season.
Ben Arfa, 29, said after scoring a hat trick in a 3-0 win over Rennes on Sunday that he was still hoping to get a place in France's Euro 2016 squad.
While that prospect remains doubtful, it appears certain that the former Newcastle attacker will have a host of offers to mull over in the summer.
Ben Arfa has made a remarkable comeback to football in the past year, scoring 16 goals in Ligue 1 after being prevented from playing for the second half of last season.
"For us, things are very clear," Rivere told RMC. "Hatem wants a sporting project to start with. It's the Champions League.
"If Nice are not in the Champions League, very honestly, it will be very difficult to keep hold of Hatem.
"If Nice find ourselves in a position to qualify for the Champions League, we hope to be able to do the maximum to keep Hatem. Why not?
"You can offer him huge amounts of money in certain countries today. I know the sums being offered to him. But he wants a sporting project."
Nice are currently fourth in Ligue 1, just two points behind second placed Lyon.
Ben Arfa's form for the club reportedly attracted the attention of Real Madrid in the first half of the season, while Rivere previously said that several English clubs were interested during the January transfer window.
Ben Arfa has also mentioned the possibility of playing for French champions Paris Saint-Germain and Rivere told RMC that several clubs have already expressed an interest in securing his services for next season.
"We're not directly receiving the offers," Rivere admitted.
"It's his agent who's dealing with that. I know there are big clubs who are after Hatem and who are offering him significant sums of money.
"I am saying it's not impossible that we'll keep him... Maybe Hatem will say that he feels good here and that he will stay another year. We don't know.
"If we can keep him, we will."
