Adriano, 29, started 24 games for Barca in La Liga last season, but the full-back had an "abnormal heart rhythm" when he underwent his standard preseason medical.
A Barcelona club statement read: "Adriano Correia has undergone an electrophysiological study in order to treat the abnormal heart rhythm discovered during his medical on Monday. He will be sidelined for four to six weeks. The player will undergo physical training during this time."
According to AS, the former Brazilian underwent a full electrophysiological study (a procedure that examines the heart's electrical activity and pathways) on Tuesday. Once the full extent of the problem was determined the player was treated as part of the same procedure.
