AC Milan made a late move for Giacomo Bonaventura, agreeing a seven-million-euro fee with Atalanta for the 25-year-old, after a transfer for Jonathan Biabiany of Parma fell through. Milan said Bonaventura had signed until 2019.
Biabiany's transfer from Parma to AC Milan, which was confirmed earlier in the day, broke down after Cristian Zaccardo refused to move in the opposite direction.
Milan had reached an agreement with Parma and the player, who passed his medical and was photographed wearing a Milan scarf in a Tweet the Serie A club later removed.
However, Zaccardo turned down a move to the Gialloblu and the whole deal was subsequently called off.
Atalanta sanctioned the Bonaventura transfer after they signed former Catania forward Alejandro Gomez earlier.
