Spain boss Vicente del Bosque has told Sergio Ramos he was wrong to question Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas' commitment to the national side.
The Chelsea duo withdrew from the most recent Spain squad due to injury, but Real Madrid defender Ramos appeared to suggest that they could have played, telling EFE: "Above all I would have like the players to show the same commitment to the national team as they do to their club."
Ramos subsequently said he had not directed the comment at the pair, but his comments were criticised by Blues boss Jose Mourinho, who said his former player "is not a doctor," and Fabregas, who told COPE he was "offended" by the remark.
Fabregas added that he and Ramos had since spoken on the phone and had put the matter behind them, but Del Bosque told "La Jungla" on Radio 4G: "Sergio was wrong. He should not have said that."
Del Bosque also said that Costa was struggling with his failure to produce his best form for Spain, having scored just once since making his debut in March.
"Diego Costa has suffered because he has not given us everything we hoped for from him and he has ended up playing with anxiety," the former Real Madrid coach said.
