Wolfsburg confident of new Kevin De Bruyne contract - Klaus Allofs

Wolfsburg have declared that the Manchester City target Kevin De Bruyne will stay with the Bundesliga runners-up as they aim to secure his signature to a new contract.

Belgium international De Bruyne is also a reported target for Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain after scoring 16 goals and recording 29 assists in a breakthrough season.

But Wolfsburg, who signed him from Chelsea in January 2014, plan to reward him with an improved deal and are confident the midfielder will sign it.

And sporting director Klaus Allofs was adamant that they will keep the 24-year-old at the club.

Allofs told Sport1: "Kevin has a contract until 2019, so the signal has already been sent out. He will stay with us. We've said we will look at his contract.

"The aim is to take into account financially Kevin's extraordinary development. The best players should earn the best wages. We will make an offer to him and I think we will reach an agreement here very quickly."

Asked if De Bruyne would stay until 2019, he added: "We don't look that far into the future. Football develops so rapidly that it is mere speculation if you look more than a year ahead.

"What happens with Kevin next year will depend on Kevin's development and just as much on the development of VfL Wolfsburg. If we are as successful as we have been last season there are not so many reasons to leave us."

De Bruyne, who scored in the final of the DFB Pokal as Wolfsburg beat Borussia Dortmund, cost Wolfsburg £18 million but is reported to be worth at least double that price now.

He confirmed in June that there had been "informal contact" from City as the former Premier League champions look to strengthen their squad.

City, who have also had two bids for Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling rejected, have shown an eagerness to sign an attacking midfielder.

Allofs also commented on the development of winter signing Andre Schurrle, who scored once in his first six months at Wolfsburg.

He said: "We are totally convinced in Andre Schurrle's capabilities. He shows them in training and he showed them when he scored three for the national team against Gibraltar. Andre will play a season that is completely different from the second leg of last season."

Allofs confirmed that the club are interested in Stuttgart centre-back Antonio Rudiger, adding: "Our central defence is well stacked with Naldo, Timm Klose and Robin Knoche, but we still want to add more quality.

"If you are searching for this position, you come across Antonio Rudiger very quickly. We made no secret of our interest in him. If we get the opportunity to sign him and the conditions suit us, we will take the next steps."

But Wolfsburg could face competition in the pursuit of Rudiger. Stuttgarter Zeitung reports that Chelsea have approached Stuttgart and are willing to meet their asking price of around €18 million.
