Barclays Asia Trophy likely to be back in Singapore soon, says Scudamore

Premier League executive chairman Richard Scudamore says that the biennial Barclays Asia Trophy is likely to be back in Singapore in the near future.

The Lion City hosted the seventh edition of the tournament for the first time with FA Cup champions Arsenal defeating Everton 3-1 in Saturday's final for their maiden triumph at the first attempt.

Stoke City beat Singapore Select XI 2-0 in Saturday's third place playoff game.

"Singapore has given us every reason to seriously consider returning in the near future," Scudamore told The Straits Times. "I know the teams were blown away by the reception that they received from fans and the people of the Lion City."

A record total of 81,974 fans showed up over the two match days with 52,107 watching Saturday's final paying ticket prices ranging S$45 and S$145. The turnout in 2015 bettered the previous high of 76,336 during the 2007 edition in Hong Kong.

The Singapore National Stadium at the Sports Hub, which opened last year, previously hosted a high profile friendly between Brazil and Japan last October and a game between Juventus and a Singapore XI last August.
