Brazil goalkeeper Diego Alves believes that a red-hot Luis Suarez poses the biggest danger for the Selecao when his side host Uruguay in Friday's 2018 World Cup qualifier.
The game in Recife will mark the return of Suarez to the Uruguayan squad now that the Barcelona striker has served out his international ban for biting Italy's Giorgio Chiellini at the 2014 World Cup.
Suarez is Uruguay's all-time leading scorer with 43 goals in 82 appearances.
Alves, who plays club football at Spanish side Valencia, is well aware of Suarez's quality.
During a news conference on Wednesday, Alves said: "Of course we have to be careful with him as he is going through a spectacular spell."
Suarez scored four goals against Alves' Valencia in a 7-0 Copa del Rey semifinal first-leg humiliation in February, a result that effectively eliminated Los Che from the competition. Mathew Ryan, however, started in Valencia's goal with Alves on the bench.
Suarez has helped Barca take a nine-point lead at the top of the Primera Division and qualify for the Champions League quarterfinals.
He is the second highest scorer in La Liga with 26 goals and is just two strikes shy of Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo.
Blaugrana teammate Lionel Messi has scored 22 goals. Suarez has also come up with 12 assists in the league.
Moreover, he has struck six goals and set up three more in the Champions League.
Barcelona trio Suarez, Messi and Neymar form arguably the most lethal attack in Europe.
"We all know Suarez's quality," said Alves, who is returning to national team play for the first time since Nov. 18, 2014. "I've been playing in Europe for some time now and the most complicated strikers I've had to face were Messi, Suarez and Neymar, who are currently the references in attack."
However, Alves says La Canarinha cannot focus solely on stopping Suarez.
"Uruguay have other players that also deserve our focus such as [Paris Saint-Germain's Edinson] Cavani," he said.
Brazil are in third place out of 10 in the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifiers with seven points, one place and two points adrift of Uruguay.
The top four teams in the group will qualify for the 2018 World Cup finals in Russia while the fifth will go into an intercontinental playoff.
Brazil take on Paraguay in Asuncion on March 29.
Alves said he is not worried about his national team future.
"That is up to the coaches. He has options to choose from. I am just happy to be back on the Selecao after my serious injury and I want to take advantage of every minute. I feel very good here and I trust everyone here. Whether I play or not depends upon Dunga. Those who don't play must help in one way or another. The most important thing is that we are all together."
