Wolfsburg not willing to sell midfielder Andre Schurrle - club executive Allofs

Wolfsburg's sporting executive Klaus Allofs has said the club don't want to sell midfielder Andre Schurrle.

Schurrle, 25, has been linked with a switch to Borussia Dortmund in recent weeks where he could reunite with former Mainz coach Thomas Tuchel.

However, Wolfsburg have so far not been interested in allowing the Germany international to move to their Bundesliga rivals.

"We are no branch you can walk into and pick players from the shelf," Allofs said in an interview with Bild. "I've spoken to Andre on the phone, and told him that we don't want to sell him."

The German newspaper claimed Dortmund have already made a €20 million bid for Schurrle, who is under contract at Wolfsburg until 2019.

"Sporting things always have priority. But as the executive I can't and shouldn't forget about the economical side," Allofs added. "Our goal has to be to return to Champions League."

Last term, Die Wolfe failed to qualify for a European competition, and it had been expected that the 2014-15 Bundesliga runners-up could face a summer of rebuilding.

Until now, however, only veteran defender Naldo, 33, has left the club and joined league rivals Schalke on a free transfer.

One other player who has been linked with a departure is left-back Ricardo Rodriguez. He had a €25 million release clause in his contract which could have been activated up until the end of June.

And despite interest from a number of clubs, including Real Madrid and Arsenal, the clause wasn't triggered and Wolfsburg now have more say on his potential departure, too.

"Maybe he misjudged the market," Allofs said about Rodriguez's comments about possibly leaving the club. "It's all in our hands again. Once he's fully focused [on his job] again, he's the best in this position."
