FC Sion have opened negotiations to sign Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli, the Swiss club's president Christian Constantin has claimed.
Balotelli, 26, is free to leave Anfield this summer, having been frozen out by manager Jurgen Klopp, who said in July that the Italian was not in his plans.
Besiktas, Sassuolo, Bologna and Nantes have all been touted as possible destinations for Balotelli, and Constantin has now claimed Sion are negotiating with the Liverpool striker's entourage.
"I can confirm that we are talking and negotiations are underway" he told ticinonews.ch. "Obviously I cannot know whether it will have a positive conclusion or not."
Balotelli joined Liverpool from AC Milan for £16 million in August 2014, but after a disappointing debut campaign he was shipped back to Milan on a season-long loan the following summer, where he again failed to impress.
This summer saw Balotelli return to Liverpool for preseason but it was made clear early on that his future would lie elsewhere.
Klopp did not include Balotelli in any of the club's nine preseason friendlies and he stayed behind at the club's training ground, Melwood, instead of heading out to United States on tour.
