Ajax's Cillessen nearing Barca move: 'The deal is likely to be finalised soon'

Ajax goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen has confirmed he's due to fly to Barcelona to iron out the final details of his move to the La Liga champions.

The Dutch international has been lined up as Manchester City-bound Claudio Bravo's replacement at Camp Nou, with Catalan newspaper Sport reporting that he will arrive in a deal worth around €12 million.

Cillessen, 27, was left out of the Ajax side for the game against Willem II last weekend, but did return to the starting lineup on Wednesday as they were eliminated from the Champions League by Rostov.

But speaking to Ziggo Sport after the game, he confirmed it will almost certainly be his final outing for the Eredivisie club.

"I will take the plane to Barcelona tonight [Wednesday] or tomorrow [Thursday] and the deal is likely to be finalised soon," Cillessen explained.

"I'll have to undergo medical tests first and [then] I don't know what else must happen [to complete the transfer]."

However, he lamented the timing of the move, adding: "I don't really want to talk about it, though. I'm leaving after a defeat and through the back door, not the front door, which is a pity."

Marc-Andre ter Stegen will be difficult to beat out for the goalkeeping spot in Luis Enrique's side, although Cillessen says he is up for the challenge.

He added: "At Ajax I had to compete with Kenneth Vermeer at first. I won the fight. Plus Barcelona play 60 games a season, which is more than Ajax [play]."

Cillessen is set to become the Catalan side's fifth signing of the summer after Denis Suarez, Lucas Digne, Samuel Umtiti and Andre Gomes.

Meanwhile multiple reports in Spain suggest striker Paco Alcacer has asked Valencia to let him join Barca in a deal which could be worth more than €30 million.
