Sean Franklin will stay with D.C. United after signing a new multiyear contract with the club on Monday.
The 31-year-old right-back had been a free agent but will return to the same team where he made 80 starts over the previous three seasons.
"Sean has been an important player for our team over the past three seasons," United general manager Dave Kasper said in a statement.
"He has been among the best veteran defenders in the league, and his experience and leadership have been invaluable to us. We are pleased to have Sean back and look forward to his continued contributions in 2017."
The nine-year MLS veteran ranks in the top 10 among active MLS players for most postseason starts, appearances, minutes and assists.
