Atletico Madrid captain Gabi has undergone surgery after the club confirmed on Monday that he had broken two fingers.
Multiple reports in Spain said Gabi was injured in a "domestic accident."
A statement on Atletico's official website read: "Gabi was successfully operated on for the fractures that he suffered in the fourth and fifth metacarpal bone of his right hand.
"The midfielder underwent a reduction surgery on the fracture and it was fixed in the fourth metacarpal bone with a plate and screws and in the fifth with an intramedullary screw."
Gabi played at Valencia on Sunday with his hand in bandages and is a doubt for the weekend's clash at Granada.
He is suspended for next week's second leg of Atletico's Champions League round-of-16 clash against Bayer Leverkusen.
