Lionel Messi hit another goal-scoring landmark on Sunday by netting twice against Real Madrid to take his tally for Barcelona to 500.
His 500th goal also proved crucial, as it gave Barca a 3-2 win at the Bernabeu to breath fresh life into La Liga's title race. He swept the ball beyond Real Madrid keeper Keylor Navas with virtually the last kick of the game after a fine run by Barca's Sergi Roberto.
Messi, 29, has scored 343 goals in La Liga, 94 in the Champions League, 43 in the Copa del Rey, 12 in the Spanish Super Cup, five in the FIFA Club World Cup and three in the European Super Cup.
The Argentina international holds a whole host of records. Among them: He is the only player to score more than 40 club goals for eight consecutive seasons, and he is the fastest player to reach 300 goals in Europe's top five leagues (achieved in 334 games).
