ISL side Kerala Blasters sign Dimitar Berbatov on one-year contract

Indian Super League side Kerala Blasters have signed former Manchester United and Tottenham striker Dimitar Berbatov.

Berbatov, 36, has signed a one-year contract with the club and will link up with former United teammate Wes Brown and head coach Rene Meulensteen, who was Sir Alex Ferguson's assistant at Old Trafford between 2007 and 2013.

Kerala announced the news in a tweet which read: "Golden touch, turns like a dream & a deadly finish. The Bulgarian Hitman is set to take ISL by storm."

Bulgaria's all-time record goalscorer, Berbatov moved to the Premier League in 2006, joining Tottenham from Bayer Leverkusen, and won the 2008 League Cup.

He then moved to United for a £30.75 million fee and won two Premier League titles and another League Cup during four seasons with the club.

From there he has gone on to play for Fulham, Monaco and PAOK Salonika.

Earlier this month former Republic of Ireland captain Robbie Keane joined reigning ISL champions Atletico de Kolkata, who are coached by former England striker Teddy Sheringham.

Former Reading and Brighton manager Steve Coppell will manage Jamshedpur FC in the ISL this season.
