MANCHESTER -- Manchester United are ready to rival Tottenham Hotspur for Ryan Sessegnon's signature this summer should Fulham cash in on the England under-21 international, sources have told ESPN FC.
United chiefs believe 17-year-old Sessegnon, who has scored 15 goals in the Championship this season, would prefer to stay in London if he leaves Craven Cottage.
But sources have told ESPN FC that will not stop them putting together a lucrative offer if Fulham, challenging for promotion to the Premier League, indicate that they are willing to listen to offers.
Sessegnon, who can play at left-back and as a left winger, has enjoyed a fine season that saw him win both the Championship Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year awards.
He has been tracked by United since his days in Fulham's academy and watched repeatedly by club scouts following his first-team debut last season.
Sources have told ESPN FC that United manager Jose Mourinho is considering adding a left-back to his squad this summer, with Ashley Young about to turn 33 and doubts over Luke Shaw's long-term future.
United have watched Kieran Tierney of Celtic, Alex Sandro of Juventus and Espanyol's Aaron Martin, while Mourinho remains an admirer of Spurs full-back Danny Rose.
A central midfielder to replace Michael Carrick remains Mourinho's top priority this summer.
