Sydney FC captain Alex Brosque agrees to one more A-League season

Sydney FC captain Alex Brosque has confirmed that he will play on for one more A-League season.

Brosque was set to draw the curtain on his 17-year career to further underline a changing of the Sky Blues guard, led by coach Graham Arnold's exit and Steve Corica's promotion in his place.

Yet, as it turns out, the club will still have its skipper -- even if he does start on the bench a little more than previous years.

"I'm Sydney FC through and through," Brosque said at Sydney's end-of-season awards night.

"It's been a joy to captain this club through the most successful period in their history and I'm glad I'm here to stay.

"I'm really excited with the direction we're heading at the moment, Steve Corica as head coach is a fantastic appointment and I know all the players, like me, are eager to play under him and impress."

Corica was equally pleased, describing Brosque's retention as a "massive boost."

"Brosquey is at the heart and soul of everything we do," Corica said.

"To be able to retain him is crucial moving forward."
