Malaysian champions Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) said they have received an offer from Portuguese top division outfit Portimonense SC for the transfer of star forward Safawi Rasid.

The Malaysia Super League club said negotiations are underway for the 23-year-old Malaysia international to leave and play in Europe.

"The club believe the offer is good for both JDT and Safawi and thus we are willing to let Safawi further his career in Europe," the club posted on Twitter.

Safawi joined JDT from T-Team FC in 2017 and has impressed the club in domestic and continental competitions as well as for the Malaysia national team in international fixtures.

The winger had been linked with reports of potential transfers to Japanese and South Korean clubs.

Portimonense finished 17th in the 18-team Primeira Liga last season but will remain in the top division for 2020-21 after Vitoria Setubal, who finished 16th, failed to meet licensing requirements for the new campaign.

JDT are trying for a record seventh Malaysia Super League title this season.
