LIVE Transfer Talk: Lionel Messi to accept offer to join Saudi club Al Hilal after PSG deal expires

The transfer window may be closed around Europe, but teams are looking ahead to the summer and there's plenty of gossip swirling around. Transfer Talk brings you all the latest buzz on rumours, comings, goings and, of course, done deals!

TOP STORY: Messi set to reunite with Ronaldo in Saudi Arabia

Lionel Messi will leave Paris Saint-Germain this summer and will accept a proposal from Al Hilal to play in Saudi Arabia next season, El Chiringuito reports.

A source familiar with the negotiations told ESPN's Mark Ogden last month that Messi was considering a move to Al Hilal, the city rivals of Cristiano Ronaldo's Al Nassr, when his PSG contract expires at the end of the season.

The 35-year-old signed a two-year deal with PSG on his arrival from Barcelona in 2021, but sources told ESPN's Julien Laurens last week that Messi will leave PSG despite there being an agreement made in principal before the World Cup in Qatar to extend his stay at the club.

Last week the club suspended Messi for two weeks without pay after he missed training to travel to Saudi Arabia. Messi released a video on his Instagram account on Friday to apologise to the club and his teammates for the incident, which caused tension in the dressing room with some players unhappy, and on Monday he returned to training alone while the rest of the squad had a day off.

El Chiringuito reports that Messi will now accept an offer from Al Hilal, the reigning champions of the Saudi Pro League. The report adds that Messi's former Barcelona teammate Sergio Busquets is set to join him at Al Hilal as a free agent, while Jordi Alba will also make the move if he can agree a deal to end his Barca contract.

Messi's former club Barca and Major League Soccer team Inter Miami have both publicly stated that they would be open to signing Messi if they make a deal work.

This could be a big issue for the north London club, especially with Manchester United and Chelsea being interested in Spurs' all-time top goal scorer.

21.05 BST: Newcastle United have continued to send scouts to Blackburn Rovers with midfielder Adam Wharton of particular interest, according to the Daily Mail. Having narrowly missed out on the promotion playoffs, Championship side Rovers are determined to keep the 18-year-old England youth international amid further interest from Arsenal, Leicester City, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United. The Magpies are also looking at Blackbrun's 23-year-old centre-back Hayden Carter.

20.32 BST: Bound for the Premier League, Sheffield United are interested in Stade Brestois midfielder Haris Belkebla, according to Foot Mercato. The 29-year-old Algeria international's contract expires at the end of the season, and it remains to be seen whether he would want to join the Blades.

19.59 BST: Antalyaspor striker Haji Wright is being looked at by relegation-threatened Southampton, according to the Daily Mail. 19.26 BST: Genoa are looking to the transfer window after the confirmation of their promotion to Serie A, reports Calciomercato, which states that they are interested in Craiova goalkeeper Robert Popa. If they are unable to sign Josep Martinez once his loan from RB Leipzig expires, then the 20-year-old could be the Rossoblu's starter, although the Romanian could still come in as a deputy if the Spaniard stays.

18.53 BST: After Eintracht Frankfurt and Borussia Dortmund were linked with Paris Saint-Germain centre-back El Chadaille Bitshiabu, Le10 Sport now reports that Liverpool and Manchester United are interested in the 17-year-old France youth international. Bitshiabu is set to listen to PSG, where he's been since 2017, before deciding whether to move.

The Hammers captain has one year left on his contract and is expected to depart in the summer, with Arsenal, Newcastle United and Manchester United all interested.

Manchester City centre-back Aymeric Laporte has told his agents to find him a new club, according to Football Insider, which states that the 28-year-old Spain international wants to be a regular starter. City are willing to listen to offers but would prefer to see Laporte move abroad than let him join a Premier League rival.

17.14 BST: Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric will sign a contract to remain at the Santiago Bernabeu until June 2024, according to Fabrizio Romano. The documents are ready for the 37-year-old Croatia international to sign, having been with Los Blancos since 2012.

16.41 BST: Manchester United remain committed to keeping David de Gea next season but he has been given no assurances he will continue as the club's No.1, sources have told ESPN's Rob Dawson.

De Gea, who was at fault for West Ham's goal in United's 1-0 defeat at the London Stadium on Sunday, is in talks about extending his contract at Old Trafford with his deal set to expire in June.

United have the option of triggering an automatic one-year extension until 2024 but sources have told ESPN that club bosses are keen to agree fresh terms on a longer contract which would include a reduced basic wage but with increased performance-related bonuses.

Sources have told ESPN that only minor details are still to be agreed but it's understood the 32-year-old, who has made 540 United appearances for over more than a decade, has been given no guarantees he will be Erik ten Hag's first-choice goalkeeper next season.

15.47 BST: Real Betis' priority this summer is for Barcelona target Guido Rodriguez to sign a contract extension, according to Diario Sport.

Barca have approached the midfielder, has one year left on his contract at the Estadio Villamarin, with a view to signing him this summer.

A World Cup winner with Argentina, Guido, 29, has made 39 appearances across all competitions for Betis this season.

Despite interest from Barca and Premier League sides, Betis are optimistic that Guido will sign a new deal to continue at the club before the end of the season.

14.59 BST: Liverpool could be a step closer to appointing a new sporting director after holding talks with Jorg Schmadtke, Sky Sports reports.

Julian Ward is due to vacate the role at Anfield at the end of the season just a year after he was promoted to replace Michael Edwards as one of the key figures in the club's player recruitment structure.

Schmadtke, 59, has spoken to Liverpool having recently left his role as manager director sport at Wolfsburg after five years at the Bundesliga club.

The former goalkeeper, who made over 250 appearances in the Bundesliga during his playing career in the 1980s and '90s, has also held executive roles at Cologne, Alemannia Aachen and Hannover.

14.05 BST: Napoli sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli has told fans not to worry about the future of the club's top players such as Victor Osimhen and Kim Min-Jae.

There has been plenty of speculation that the Italian champions could lose their stars this summer, including Nigeria striker Osimhen and South Korea centre-back Kim, who are both targets of top Premier League clubs.

Giuntoli said: "I've been here for eight years and have been hearing about cycles ever since. If I were a fan, I wouldn't be so worried about [Napoli president Aurelio] De Laurentiis for the future of Napoli."

De Laurentiis, meanwhile, said his team will be aiming to win the Champions League next season. Napoli were eliminated by AC Milan in the quarterfinal stages of the Champions League this season after a 2-1 aggregate defeat.

"I was very keen on the possibility of winning the Champions League, we'll try again next year," he said.

13.10 BST: Jorge Mendes has laid the foundations for Joao Cancelo to join Barcelona on loan from Manchester City this summer, according to Diario Sport.

Cancelo's influence at City waned after the World Cup and he was allowed to join Bayern Munich on loan in January. The German club have an option to make the deal permanent for around €70m, but are not going to execute it. Therefore, agent Mendes is looking at other options for his client, who is unlikely to return to City next season.

Barca also showed an interest in Cancelo in January as they look to fill the right-back void in their squad. Centre-back Jules Kounde has played there this season due to the absence of a specialist for the role.

LaLiga's spending limits will limit what Barca can do in the upcoming transfer window, but Sport suggest a loan with an option to sign Cancelo in 2024 could be do-able for the Catalan club, who are expected to be busy in the transfer market once again.

12.23 BST: Tottenham Hotspur have a responsibility to striker Harry Kane to ensure "the scenario for him is the best possible," according to teammate Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

Kane scored the only goal in Saturday's 1-0 win over Crystal Palace to keep Spurs' slim hope of Champions League qualification alive and also move past Wayne Rooney as the Premier League's second-highest goal scorer of all time.

Kane's tally of 209 is still 51 behind Alan Shearer's record, but there is doubt that Kane will remain at Spurs long enough to potentially break the record in their colours after yet another season with plenty of upheaval and no trophies.

"[This latest record] is amazing, but what is there for me to say [about him] that people do not know already, it is maybe difficult, but honestly, it is nice to have him around and he is one of those players who will be in the [record] books, in the history for a very long time," Spurs midfielder Hojbjerg said of Kane, whose contract is due to expire at the end of next season.

"That we have him around, I think it is important also for Harry to understand he has a big responsibility and also I think the club has a responsibility to make sure the scenario for him is the best possible."

- Will Kane be English football's top scorer if he overtakes Shearer? Not even close

11.27 BST: Algeria midfielder Houssem Aouar will join Roma as a free agent this summer, according to Ansa.

Aouar, 24, has not signed a contract extension with Olympique Lyon, with his current deal expiring at the end of the season.

The Lyon-born player has agreed to sign a five-year contract with Roma.

10.33 BST: Liverpool Montevideo want a €6m transfer fee for Barcelona target Fabricio Diaz, according to Mundo Deportivo.

Diaz, 20, has already made over 100 appearances for his club and is an international with Uruguay at under-20 level, with his performances drawing interest from across South America and Europe.

Liverpool have reportedly already rejected bids worth €4m from Argentine side River Plate and Brazilian club Flamengo, with Barca closely monitoring the situation.

The Catalan club are preparing for life after Sergio Busquets, who is expected to announce this week if he will renew his contract or leave when it expires in June.

Ruben Neves and Sofyan Amrabat are linked as immediate replacements for Busquets, but the younger Diaz is said to be someone who could fit in at the base of Barca's midfield for the next decade.

09.41 BST: Burnley manager Vincent Kompany has signed a new contract that will keep him at Turf Moor until at least 2028, the Premier League-bound club announced on Sunday.

Kompany, who enjoyed a storied playing career at Manchester City, had been shortlisted for the vacant Chelsea job last month after leading Burnely to the Championship title in his first season in charge.

"Burnley and Turf Moor felt right pretty much from the start -- so it also feels right to sign for the next five years," Kompany said in a statement.

"Together with the fans we have made Turf Moor a fortress again and continue to look forward to the future and the job of making Burnley better with every step."

Burnley will wrap up their season on Monday with a game against Cardiff City at home, where they will be presented with the trophy.

08.48 BST: Sevilla sporting director Monchi is optimistic that Pape Gueye and Loic Bade will continue at the club beyond this summer after both players joined the club on loan in January.

Sevilla intend to exercise the option to sign Stade Rennais defender Loic Bade for an undisclosed fee at the end of the campaign, while they are also looking to agree terms with Olympique Marseille to acquire Senegal midfielder Gueye.

Monchi said: "They have a good chance of continuing, although it will depend on how we finish, what happens with other teammates...

"It's a puzzle. But with Loic we have a closed signing option and for Pape, another agreed upon."

08.00 BST: Erik ten Hag said he has "no concerns" about David de Gea despite the Manchester United goalkeeper's blunder against West Ham United on Sunday.

De Gea's error, palming Said Benrahma's weak shot into his own net, earned West Ham a 1-0 win at London Stadium on Sunday as United dropped more points in the race for the top four. His future as the No.1 at Old Trafford has been questioned this season, but Ten Hag insists he still has confidence in the Spain international.

"He has the most clean sheets in the Premier League, so we would not be in this position without him," Ten Hag told a news conference. "So he has fully my belief, no concerns. Mistakes happen, but as a team you have to deal with it, you have to show character, be resilient and bounce back and this team will do."

De Gea is out of contract in the summer, although talks are ongoing about extending his deal with the club. United have been linked with other goalkeepers, but asked about De Gea's long-term future, Ten Hag said he hopes the 32-year-old will be at the club next season.

"We want him to stay and we want him to extend his contract," Ten Hag said.

- Football Insider have linked Aston Villa with moves for Barcelona forward Ferran Torres, Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha and Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic. Villa are reportedly monitoring the situation of Torres, 23, as he could be forced to leave Barcelona due to their financial issues. In addition to that, they are willing to meet Fulham's demands of £60 million for Palhinha, 27, and are preparing to move for Vlahovic, 23, if the Serbian is allowed to depart Juventus in the summer.

- As Juventus prepare to replace the injured Mattia De Sciglio and cover the potential departure of Juan Cuadrado, Calciomercato reports that the Bianconeri are looking at 18-year-old Real Valladolid right-back Ivan Fresneda. However, a high valuation and plenty of competition is expected, so they could look to Bayern Munich's Noussair Mazraoui, 25, as an alternative.

- Diario Sport have offered a list of eight midfielders that Barcelona are interested in ahead of the summer transfer window. Real Sociedad's Martin Zubimendi, Chelsea's N'Golo Kante and Wolverhampton Wanderers' Ruben Neves are all on the shortlist.

- Leicester City, Everton and West Ham United are all monitoring the situation of Manchester City right-back Kyle Walker, according to Ekrem Konur. There have been a number of clubs linked with the 32-year-old after it was suggested that there are doubts regarding whether or not he can adapt to Pep Guardiola's new system, which requires full-backs to take up central positions.

- Borussia Dortmund are discussing a potential summer move for Werder Bremen striker Marvin Ducksch, reports Sky Sports Deutschland, with the 29-year-old's release clause of €7.5m not likely to be an issue. Ducksch, who was born in Dortmund, has recorded a scoring tally in double digits in each of the last four seasons.
