England and Netherlands started their Euro 2024 campaign with victories. England's Jude Bellingham scored the only goal of the match against Serbia while Cody Gakpo and Wout Weghorst netted for the Dutch in 2-1 win over Poland.

In the other match on June 16, Christian Eriksen opened the scoring for Denmark but their match ended in a 1-1 draw after Erik Janza equalised for Slovenia in the 77th minute.

ESPN's By The Numbers brings you best stats from all the Euro 2024 action on June 16:

Poland 1-2 Netherlands

2

Wout Weghorst scored the game-winning goal with his first touch of the game, the 2nd-fewest minutes needed by a substitute to score a game-winning goal in European Championship history. Juan Valeron was on the field for 36 seconds after coming on and scoring with his first touch for Spain against Russia in 2004 - the fastest to ever do so.

2 and 7

Weghorst also became only the second Dutch player to score in three consecutive games as a substitute after Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink in 2007-08. Seven of Weghorst's last nine goals for the Netherlands have come as a substitute.

1 and 19

This was the first time in the history of the European Championship that at least 3 goals were scored in each of the first 5 games of the tournament. The 19 goals scored are the joint-highest ever in the first five games of the tournament (also 1976, but it was a four-game tournament).

1

The Netherlands hadn't conceded a goal from a corner kick in a European Championship match since the 2004 semifinals against Portugal, when it conceded 2 corner kick goals in a 2-1 loss. This was also the first time Poland lost a Euros match where they scored first.

Slovenia 1-1 Denmark

3

Christian Eriksen scored in Denmark's opener at the 2024 European Championship a little more than 3 years after going into cardiac arrest in Denmark's opener against Finland at the Euro 2020 (which took place in 2021).

42

Eriksen's goal was his 42nd for Denmark (131st game), bringing him level with Ole Madsen for the 4th-most in the history of the men's senior national team. He is ten behind all-time top scorer Jon Dahl Tomasson, and just 1 game away from tying Simon Kjaer for the most appearances (132) by a Danish man.

12

Eriksen was involved in 12 shots for Denmark - the most by a midfielder in the Euros since Mesut Ozil for Germany in 2012.

89

Andreas Christensen completed all 89 of his passes, the first-ever player to have a 100% pass completion at the Euros (since these stats were tracked from 1980).

Serbia 0-1 England

1

Jude Bellingham is the first European player to make an appearance at three major international tournaments before turning 21, aged 20 years, 353 days, having played at Euro 2020, the 2022 FIFA World Cup and now Euro 2024.

He's also the first player to score for the England men's team at both the World Cup and European Championship while playing his club football outside of England.

2

Bellingham joined Michael Owen as the only European players to score a goal at the European Championship and the World Cup for their senior national team before turning 21 years old.

He also joined Wayne Rooney as the only players in Euro history with a game-winning goal before turning 21 years old. Rooney had 2 in the 2004 tournament (vs Switzerland and Croatia in group stage).

11

There were just 11 shots between Serbia (6) and England (5), the lowest of any game at the Euros on record (since 1980).

5

England have become the first team in the history of the men's Euro to keep five consecutive clean sheets in the group stages of the competition.
