Sources: Shabazz Muhammad will sign with Bucks once he clears waivers

Shooting guard Shabazz Muhammad has agreed to sign with the Milwaukee Bucks upon clearing waivers, league sources told ESPN.

Milwaukee has waived guard Sean Kilpatrick to make room for the eventual signing of Muhammad, the sources said.

The Minnesota Timberwolves waived Muhammad after the two sides agreed to a contract buyout Thursday night, clearing the way for Muhammad to sign with another playoff contender, sources told ESPN.

Muhammad re-signed with the Timberwolves last offseason with hopes of a substantial bench role, only to find coach Tom Thibodeau reverting to the long-standing practices of shorter bench rotations and heavy starter minutes that became a staple of his five years as Chicago Bulls coach.

Muhammad, 25, has been benched with DNPs in 32 of the team's past 43 games, averaging 9.4 minutes per game.

Minnesota fell to 38-27 after Thursday night's 108-99 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers and hold the third seed in the Western Conference playoff race. In his fifth season with the Timberwolves, Muhammad dropped to 9.4 minutes and 3.8 points per game. He averaged 9.9, 10.5 and 13.5 points a game in his past three seasons, respectively.
