FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Speaking at a charity event Monday night, New England Patriots offensive tackle Nate Solder revealed his infant son, Hudson, has a Wilms tumor in his kidneys.
Solder, a five-year NFL veteran currently on season-ending injured reserve with a biceps injury, shared the news at a benefit for the Joe Andruzzi Foundation. Andruzzi is a former Patriots offensive lineman and cancer survivor.
Solder and his wife Lexi decided to publicly share the news in hopes that it might provide comfort to others who might receive a similar diagnosis. Their son, born in July, has already undergone chemotherapy treatments at Boston Children's Hospital.
This is the second cancer diagnosis for Solder's family in the past two years. Solder revealed in April that he was treated for testicular cancer prior to the 2014 season. He said then that he hoped to use his platform as an NFL player to spread awareness.
