JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Another Jacksonville Jaguars draft pick is injured before his rookie season begins.
Defensive end Jonathan Woodard injured his Achilles in Phase 2 of on-field workouts, the team announced, and had surgery to repair the tendon. The team said the seventh-round pick from Central Arkansas will be placed on the physically unable to perform list and is expected to miss the 2016 season.
The injury news comes a week after word that the team's first-round selection, cornerback Jalen Ramsey, suffered a meniscus tear in his right knee. He was in Pensacola, Florida, on Monday to meet with noted orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews for a second opinion.
Depending on the type of surgical procedure required, Ramsey could miss anywhere from six weeks to six months.
Jaguars coach Gus Bradley said after Monday's OTA that Ramsey complained of knee soreness after a workout last week and they have not yet been able to determine the exact moment he injured his knee.
"Both him and I have had conversations about it, and you really can't see anything on tape," Bradley said. "You cannot tell anything on tape, and he made it through the workout."
Last season, defensive end Dante Fowler Jr., the Jaguars' 2015 first-round pick, tore his ACL in his first practice and missed the entire season.
Woodard wasn't the only injury the Jaguars announced Monday. Backup center Luke Bowanko injured the labrum in his right hip and will undergo surgery. He will also be placed on the PUP list.
