The Eagles are releasing safety Kevin Byard, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter, in a move that will free up significant salary cap space.
Byard was scheduled to make a base salary of just under $10 million in 2024 and a $4 million roster bonus. By releasing him, the Eagles are set to free up an additional $13.7 million in cap space as they enter free agency. Prior to the move, they were projected to have about $30 million in space available.
The Eagles acquired Byard from the Titans last October for a fifth-round pick and a sixth-round pick in the 2024 draft along with safety Terrell Edmunds.
Byard, 30, played in 10 regular-season games for Philadelphia, recording an interception, 3 passes defensed and 75 tackles.
A two-time Pro Bowler, Byard has 28 career interceptions over eight seasons.
The Eagles figure to be in the market for a starting safety opposite Reed Blankenship.
