The United States have qualified for the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan after a convincing victory over Canada on Saturday.

The Eagles thrashed Canada 52-16 at Torero Stadium in San Diego to claim the Americas 1 qualifier spot in Pool C. The two sides had drawn 28-28 in the first leg in Ontario.

No. 8 Cam Dolan and reserve hooker Joe Taufete scored two tries each in the second leg as the USA recorded their largest ever margin of victory over their Northern neighbours.

The result sees the USA join Eddie Jones' England, France, Argentina and a yet to be decided qualifier from Oceania in the group stages in two years time.

It's the first time since the Rugby World Cup began in 1987 that the USA has qualified for the tournament as the top American side.

Canada will now face Uruguay both home and away for the second Americas qualification place in the tournament.
