Tigers-Pies to restart AFL season on Thursday, June 11 - report

Powerhouse clubs Richmond and Collingwood will restart the 2020 AFL season on Thursday, June 11, likely at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, The Age reports.

The Age is also reporting that Richmond has been informed of the league's scheduling decision, but contact with Collingwood has not yet been made.

The most recent encounter between the Tigers and Pies was in Round 19 last year, with Damien Hardwick's side winning by 32 points.

A Showdown between the Power and Crows at Adelaide Oval is also expected to be part of the return round, after South Australian premier Steven Marshall requested the contest remain in Adelaide.

Both clubs will be relocating to the Gold Coast, where they will join West Coast and Fremantle, for the first four weeks of the season. However, by scheduling the Showdown in the first week football is back, the two sides can remain in Adelaide a week longer, play the Showdown before flying north.

The 2020 home and away season has been on hold, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, since the conclusion of Round 1 in mid-March. The season has been reduced to 17 rounds.

The AFL is expected to announce the full Round 1 fixture later this week.
