Ravens, Joe Flacco playing catch up after losing practice time

A look at what's happening with the Baltimore Ravens as they begin their three-day mandatory minicamp Tuesday:

1. Joe Flacco needs to make up for lost time: The Ravens forfeited two of their 10 voluntary offseason practices last week after breaking NFL rules. It's the third time since 2010 that the NFL has disciplined coach John Harbaugh and his team for an offseason violation.

This impacts the chemistry-building of Flacco and Baltimore's revamped passing game the most. Among the 19 wide receivers and tight ends on the roster, 12 are in their first year with the Ravens, including the top three receivers (Michael Crabtree, John Brown and Willie Snead) and the best pass-catching tight ends (rookies Hayden Hurst and Mark Andrews).

What helps is the Ravens starting training camp a week earlier than usual. Baltimore's first full-team practice is scheduled for July 19 because the Ravens play in the Hall of Fame game. Flacco also mentioned the possibility of throwing to his receivers at a private workout before training camp.

2. Middle linebacker C.J. Mosley showing his commitment: Mosley has attended the Ravens' voluntary workouts even thought he is still looking for a new deal. Cowboys guard Zack Martin, meanwhile, reportedly landed an extension after skipping the offseason practices.

Mosley is playing in his fifth-year option, and others in his position (like Martin, Oakland's Khalil Mack, L.A. Rams' Aaron Donald and Green Bay's Ha Ha Clinton-Dix) have chosen to sit out voluntary workouts in their contract years. A three-time Pro Bowl player, Mosley has been there since the start of Baltimore's conditioning program and has even participated in a team-sponsored youth clinic.

"I’m sure we all see eye to eye with that point," Mosley said of contract talks in April. "As far as the money and all that stuff goes, that’s for the upstairs and the agency."

3. Home cooking for newcomers: Harbaugh recently gave his rookies the afternoon off and invited them for a barbecue at his home.

Who is the best griller of the Harbaugh men?

"My dad has never cooked a thing in his life," Harbaugh said. "We joke that our dad is the only person in the world that could die of starvation with a full refrigerator in the house, because he won’t even make himself a sandwich! My mom takes care of him. Jim, does he have the patience for that, really? Think about it. So I probably win by default."

4. Ravens avoiding injuries -- so far: If Harbaugh buys into superstitions, he should be knocking on a lot of wood this week. The Ravens have successfully avoided any significant injuries so far this spring, which is a change from the past two seasons.

In June 2016, wide receiver Breshad Perriman partially tore his ACL, which caused him to miss most of the preseason. Last June, tight end Dennis Pitta (hip) and cornerback Tavon Young (ACL) suffered season-ending injuries on back-to-back days.

The only injury of note this offseason has been reserve wide receiver Quincy Adeboyejo, who is expected to start the season on the Physically Unable to Perform list after having surgery on his upper leg muscle.
