GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Mike McCarthy wasn’t happy with the hit receiver Randall Cobb took late in Sunday night’s win over the New York Giants.

The Green Bay Packers coach called safety Landon Collins’ shot on Cobb “unnecessary.”

Cobb was evaluated for a concussion after the game and said nothing new showed up when he was examined on Monday.

Collins drilled Cobb in the back of the head and neck area at the end of a 13-yard catch to convert a third down that allowed the Packers to run out the clock on the 23-16 victory.

“Well, it didn’t look very good,” McCarthy said Monday. “It didn’t look very good live, and it didn’t look very good on film. Unnecessary, but he’s going to be fine.

“Randall’s sore, just talked to him briefly in the meetings. I think he’ll be fine.”

Cobb said Monday that he was more sore than usual but otherwise was OK. Collins was not penalized for the hit, but still could be subject to a fine.

“I play football; I play for contact,” Cobb said Monday “If I get hit, I get hit. If it’s unnecessary, it’s unnecessary. They didn’t call a penalty, so I guess it wasn’t unnecessary.”

Said fellow Packers receiver Jordy Nelson: “You’d like, when a guy’s laying in the ground like that, [for Collins] to pull up. Obviously he didn’t.”

It was Cobb’s best game of the season with nine catches for 108 yards.
