Colts' defining moments: No. 5, Brandon Weeden beats Indy

INDIANAPOLIS -- Crazy. Dramatic. Embarrassing.

The list of words to describe the Indianapolis Colts' 2015 season could go on and on. All 32 NFL teams enter the season with Super Bowl aspirations. But the Colts truly did believe they were good enough to make a Super Bowl run after reaching the AFC Championship Game in 2014.

That obviously didn’t happen, as the Colts are at home watching the playoffs. So, let’s take a look back at the season. We’re looking at the top 10 moments -- two each day -- that played a part in defining the Colts’ season.

No. 10: The fumble

No. 9: Fake field goal

No. 8: Strip sack

No. 7: The overtime interception

No. 6: Early interception

No. 5: Brandon Weeden beats Indy

What happened: The Colts staggered into their AFC South matchup against the Houston Texans on Dec. 20 losers of two straight games by a total of 70 points. But a victory over the Texans would put the Colts in the driver’s seat to win their third straight division title. Things looked good considering Houston had never won in Indianapolis (0-13). That changed once Brandon Weeden entered the game. Weeden, who was released by Dallas earlier in the season after going 0-3, replaced the injured T.J. Yates and went 11-of-18 for 105 yards and threw Houston’s only touchdown in the fourth quarter to send the Colts to their third straight loss.

The impact of the play: The Colts went from controlling their own destiny to needing the help of other teams down the stretch to make the playoffs. The odds were long for the Colts to catch the Texans and win the division because they needed nine different scenarios to happen in the final week of the season. The Texans officially ended Indianapolis’ bleak playoff hopes when they beat Jacksonville in Week 17.
