Falcons coach Dan Quinn: We have room for Herschel Walker

Herschel Walker getting a chance to return to the NFL at the age of 53 would be quite a story. Falcons coach Dan Quinn stirred up the conversation on Tuesday.

Quinn was asked during the Buckhead Business Association meeting if the Falcons would have room for Walker, who claims to be in a good enough shape to give it another go.

“Yes,” Quinn said, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "He’s one of my all-time favorite players. Yeah, we have room for him.

"He’d definitely fit in great from a competitive standpoint."

All indications are Quinn was playing to the crowd, although the Falcons did not immediate confirm it.

Walker, who went to college at the University of Georgia, played 12 NFL seasons, starting with the Dallas Cowboys in 1986 and ending with the Cowboys in 1997. In between, he was part of blockbuster trade to the Minnesota Vikings and spent time with the Philadelphia Eagles and New York Giants. Walker rushed for 8,225 yards during his NFL career.

The Falcons appear to be pretty solid at the running back positions going into 2015 season with second-year player Devonta Freeman and rookie Tevin Coleman competing for the starting role, plus speedy Antone Smith giving the team another explosive weapon.

Fourth-string running back Jerome Smith wears the same No. 34 Walker did during his day.
