BOCA RATON, Fla. -- A day after the Cleveland Browns cooled rumors and reports of their supposed interest in acquiring Colin Kaepernick, another of Kaepernick’s purported suitors seemingly took a wait-and-see approach.

Denver Broncos coach Gary Kubiak was asked about potentially bringing in the dual-threat quarterback who could stand a fresh start in a new environment after five star-crossed seasons with the San Francisco 49ers.

And Kubiak was not biting, either.

“I can’t talk about him,” Kubiak said of Kaepernick at the NFL owners meetings on Tuesday morning. “He’s under contract with another team, so I can’t talk about him.”

Indeed, $11.9 million of Kaepernick’s contract becomes guaranteed on April 1, and Kaepernick is recuperating from a trio of surgeries -- on his left (non-throwing) shoulder, right thumb and left knee.

There is a growing sense that teams are simply waiting out the 49ers to see if they cut him so he could be signed without giving up anything and to a new contract.

Other potential rumored landing spots for Kaepernick besides Cleveland and Denver include the New York Jets and Los Angeles Rams, though a trade market for Kaepernick has seemingly cooled considerably.

The Super Bowl champion Broncos lost Peyton Manning to retirement and Brock Osweiler to the Houston Texans in free agency and recently acquired Mark Sanchez.

“I know John Elway is not going to sit on his hands and not have a quarterback, so at some point he’ll work a trade, draft, do whatever he has to do,” said Oakland Raiders coach Jack Del Rio, a former Broncos defensive coordinator. “He’s going to work hard to find that quarterback.”

Kubiak was also asked if the Niners had agreed to let the Broncos engage in trade talks for Kaepernick.

“We can’t discuss him because he’s under contract with another team,” Kubiak reiterated.
