What's the Golden Contract super lightweight tournament, and who's in it?

Golden Contract, a new eight-man elimination tournament, has its second instalment at super lightweight at York Hall, east London on Friday, and will be streamed live on ESPN+ in association with Top Rank.

No major world titleholders are among the competitors announced so far, but the prize on offer is substantial and likely career-changing.

According to the competition's organizers, UK-based MTK Global, the winner of each tournament will land a two-year deal that guarantees six-figure purses for every fight along with global exposure.

The semifinals are due early next year and the final in May or June. The draw for Friday's quarterfinals was made earlier this week, with bouts scheduled for ten rounds. Knockout bonuses are an added incentive.

Here's a guide to the super lightweight tournament, which follows the featherweight quarterfinals last month.

Logan Yoon (16-0, 12 KOs)

Undefeated Yoon, from Honolulu in Hawaii, has fought in Mexico and the United States so far, and the 21-year-old has arrived in the UK after just one fight in the last 12 months. "I know most of my potential opponents are basically fighting on their own turf," Yoon said. "There are a lot of good styles among them and it all makes for an exciting tournament."

Tyrone McKenna (19-1-1, 6 KOs)

McKenna, 29, from Belfast in Northern Ireland, holds the fringe WBC International belt and is one of the most experienced boxers in the tournament. "When you're king, everyone is going to be trying to take your crown," McKenna said. McKenna outpointed Golden Contract rival Lewis Benson in November 2018, five months after his only defeat on points to Jack Catterall.

Ohara Davies (19-2, 14 KOs)

Davies, 27, from Hackney in London, is perhaps the most well-known of the eight boxers and claims to feel rejuvenated after returning to work with trainer Tony Cesay. The Londoner clashed with Darren Surtees and McKenna at Tuesday's draw, and is no stranger to controversy. Davies is looking for a career boost after he was outclassed and stopped by Josh Taylor -- now IBF-WBA world champion -- in 2017, and was then outpointed by British rival Jack Catterall a year ago.

"I'm going for a world title," Davies said. "I'm going for everything I can get and I know I can become a world champion. The first step is going to be on Nov. 22. I'm not thinking about the money, I'm just going back to how I was in the past, thinking about fighting."

Mohamed Mimoune (21-3, 2 KOs)

Mimoune, 32, from Toulouse in France, enters the tournament with the credentials to silence the home crowd -- and he has done it before in the UK. The Frenchman is a former holder of the fringe IBO title and stepped up to welterweight to win a split decision over Sam Eggington for the European title in Manchester two years ago. Mimoune was skilful and awkward against Eggington, but his progress was stopped when he was outpointed by Viktor Postol in a WBC world title final eliminator in Las Vegas in April.

Mimoune is ranked at No. 9 by the WBC and is a real contender for the tournament.

Jeff Ofori (10-1, 3 KOs)

Jeff Ofori, 29, from Tottenham in London, got his chance at 24 hours' notice after Scotland's Lewis Benson was pulled from the tournament on the morning of the weigh-in on medical grounds due to a concern over the size of one of his pupils. Ofori boxes again just a week after his last fight -- an eight round points win -- and is a former holder of the regional Southern Area lightweight title. Ofori, who has twice gone ten rounds, will be stepping up a division for the Golden Contract tournament.

Darren Surtees (12-0, 8 KOs)

Surtees, 25, from County Durham, turned professional four years ago and has not boxed on the same level as a lot of the others in the tournament. Two years ago, Surtees won the regional Northern Area title.

Kieran Gething (9-2-1, 2 KOs)

Gething, 25, from Pontypool in Wales, was drafted into the quarterfinal after the withdrawals of Zhankosh Turarov and Anthony Yigit. Gething has had a good year so far with three wins, including two for the Welsh Area title. After going 30 rounds in three points wins in 2019, Gething comes into the tournament full of confidence.

Mikey Sakyi (8-2, 4 KOs)

Sakyi, 29, from Romford in London, also got a late callup to the tournament after the withdrawals of Turarov and Yigit. He enters the tournament after a knockout win over Idris Hill in defence of his regional Southern Area title in March.
