Promoter Frank Warren is working on matching unbeaten British fighters Daniel Dubois and Joe Joyce for the European heavyweight title.
Both Londoners are climbing closer to world title contention after leaving a trail of destruction behind them in their early careers.
Joyce (10-0, 9 KOs), 34, had been due to challenge Germany's Marco Huck, the former world cruiserweight champion, on Jan. 11 for the European belt. But Huck pulled out injured, and 2016 Olympic silver medallist Joyce has not boxed since July.
Warren now hopes the same title will be on the line if he can match them in the first half of this year, possibly in London on April 11. Dubois (14-0, 13 KOs), 22, would also defend his British and Commonwealth titles.
"Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury are tied up contractually for the next couple fights, so is Anthony Joshua with two mandatories due [against Kubrat Pulev and Oleksandr Usyk], so the aim is to keep Daniel busy and get him into a mandatory spot," Warren told ESPN.
"I need to keep stepping him up and we are looking to step him up against Joe Joyce. That's a great domestic fight, they have both got great knockout records and Joe has got a wealth of experience as an amateur.
"We're looking at that fight and hopefully will make that next. We've asked if that fight will be for the EBU title as well.
"Daniel has got tremendous potential and at this stage he's as good as any heavyweight out there. I believe we've got the best heavyweight in the world in Tyson Fury, and the best young heavyweight in Daniel Dubois."
Warren said IBF world featherweight champion Josh Warrington (30-0, 7 KOs), 29, is being lined up to face the winner of WBO titleholder Shakur Stevenson's next defence against Colombia's Miguel Marriaga in New York on March 14.
American Stevenson (13-0, 7 KOs), 22, of New Jersey, won a silver medal at the 2016 Olympics and if he wins a first defence would not be available to face Warrington in his home city of Leeds, probably at Elland Road, until May or June.
Warrington may have an interim fight as he has last boxed in October, in a two-round win over Sofiane Takoucht for a third title defence.
"We've agreed terms with [Top Rank] promoter Bob Arum that Stevenson has his next fight and the winner will fight Josh in the UK," Warren added.
"Josh wants a unification fight, [WBC titleholder] Gary Russell Jr. has a fight already, and the WBA champion Can Xu doesn't want to fight Josh, so Stevenson is a good fight. We don't know about another fight just yet."
Warren expects world title shots for two of his stable this year: Jack Catterall to face the winner of WBC-WBO champion Jose Ramirez against Viktor Postol on Feb. 2, and Liam Williams to face the winner of WBO middleweight champion Demetrius Andrade against Luke Keeler.
