A brief skirmish between South Carolina and Clemson players broke out on the field before Saturday's game at Memorial Stadium, and Gamecocks players said afterward that it began when a Clemson player shouted a racial slur.
The confrontation between the two teams occurred on the field about 80 minutes before the game began, according to The State.
South Carolina linebacker Bryson Allen-Williams told reporters that a Clemson player "used the N-word." He said he was unable to identify the player.
"We are going to get our get-back. We definitely have this game circled next year," Allen-Williams said. "They disrespected us. We are waiting 365 days to get this team back. They did a lot of disrespectful things on the field. We are on a mission. We are definitely going to be ready."
South Carolina receiver Terry Googer was among the Gamecocks players who tweeted after the game about the alleged use of slurs.
Never thought I would hear so many racial slurs in my life!! Classless is not a strong enough word to describe the actions!
