Texas A&M has awarded football coach Jimbo Fisher a four-year contract extension that increases his average annual salary to more than $9 million, the school announced Wednesday.
Fisher, entering his fourth season at Texas A&M, originally signed a 10-year, $75 million contract when he was hired away from Florida State after leading the Seminoles' program for eight seasons. Fisher's new deal will keep him at 10 years, now running through Dec. 31, 2031, and will be worth more than $90 million.
It places him second nationally behind Alabama's Nick Saban as the highest-paid coaches in college football. Saban received a raise and extension this summer that will take him to an average of $10.6 million annually through the 2028 season.
Fisher, who is 26-10 in three seasons at Texas A&M, will be paid an annual salary of $9 million beginning Jan. 1, 2022, an amount that increases to $9,150,000 on Jan. 1, 2023. Fisher's base salary increases by $100,000 in each of the following years, with all other performance incentives remaining the same, the school said.

"I am thankful for the unwavering support of the administration, the faculty and staff, our 12th Man Foundation donors, the Aggie Network, and the 12th Man -- the largest and loudest student section in the country. It is an honor to be the Head Football Coach at Texas A&M, and although I am proud of the strides we've made, we ain't done yet!"
The Aggies, ranked No. 6 in The Associated Press' preseason poll, finished one spot out of the College Football Playoff last season and ended the campaign ranked No. 4 nationally after winning eight straight games, including a 41-27 decision over North Carolina in the Capital One Orange Bowl. They open the season Saturday against Kent State.
At Florida State, Fisher guided the Seminoles to the 2013 national championship. He won at least 10 games in six of his eight seasons in Tallahassee.
