Lewis Hamilton praised Nico Rosberg on his Mexican Grand Prix victory but joked that there was "no gust of wind" this time after the German's costly error in Austin.
Hamilton could not beat Rosberg on the run down to Turn 1 and remained second for the rest of the race, barring two laps during the pit-stop window. Hamilton wrapped up the championship in Austin, where Rosberg made a late error -- which he later attributed to a gust of wind -- to hand his Mercedes team-mate the victory.
Speaking on finishing second in Mexico, Hamilton said: "It was a good race, the team did a good job and Nico drove well today -- no mistakes, no gust of wind. It was really difficult to follow here but what a crowd we had here today, it was incredible. It was quite fun to be able to push and not be have to worried about points or anything like that."
Hamilton appeared to be frustrated during the race with Mercedes' decision to pit both drivers for a second set medium tyres, which it did for safety concerns and with a huge cushion back to third place. The world champion repeatedly asked Mercedes why it made that call and later told race engineer Peter Bonnington it was the wrong decision, but played the moment down after the race.
"It doesn't really matter now ... In hindsight it's irrelevant. The team had concerns for safety and they had to take a position on that, and when it comes to safety you follow the orders."
