Kimi Raikkonen: 'We need to do a better job'

Kimi Raikkonen thinks Ferrari needs to do "a better job" to maximise results after two frustrating weekends in a row.

Raikkonen retired after contact with Romain Grosjean in Monaco, before labouring to sixth in Canada. In the Montreal race teammate Sebastian Vettel gave a glimpse of the car's true potential by finishing second, something he said was only possible after a clean Friday and Saturday on his side of the garage.

Raikkonen admits he has failed to get the car into the perfect performance window for the last two races.

"We need to do a better job," Raikkonen said. "Obviously Monaco was what it was, and the last race wasn't an easy one, nit wasn't ideal where we finished but it was something. We need to make sure we get the car to where we want it to be, make the tyres work as we want and then I'm sure we'll be OK.

"We struggled a bit in the last few races, it hasn't been easy, but it's a new weekend and a new place. I know if we get things as we want we will be fast, but it's a case of getting what we want. That makes it a hell of a lot of difference when the car is where we want it to be with the set-up. That's the aim but with a new circuit it's always tricky but it's the same for everybody. I think we have a good package but we need to get it as we want it."

Raikkonen has struggled in Canada in all three seasons since the introduction of the V6s in 2014, which coincided with his return to Ferrari. The Finn does not expect that to continue at the Baku circuit.

"I think there were a lot of small things leading to those issues and when you add them with the cold conditions we had there made it tricky to get the tyres work as we want. Probably the set-up could have been better in certain places but sometimes it's very hard to get things right with the set-up if the tyres don't work, since practice. If you struggle to switch them on it's tricky. Here it's a completely different story, I don't expect any issues, but you never knew, because it's a new place."
